I have worked for a Local Council for 36 years in an administrative role. As a part-time role on weekends, I was previously employed for just over a year as a Direct Payments Personal Assistant to an elderly lady with advanced Alzheimers Disease, incontinence and mobility issues. My role was to assist with personal care, meal preparation and a sitting service for the primary carer. Since October 2022, I have provided support for a lady with Cerebral Palsy for 14 hours every Sunday. This involves domestic tasks, personal care, caring for her dog, meal preparation and general conversation/company.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I believe that, for a person with a disability, a sense of independence helps to build self-confidence and to feel more empowered, positive and fulfilled in life. The role of Personal Assistant is to support this by providing practical and emotional support, both at home and within the community.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I am interested in providing support for anyone who wishes to take a more active role in society (i.e. social activities and hobbies), or to provide respite and support for the main carer/relative. I am a supportive, patient and positive person and find the role of Personal Assistant very rewarding.
