Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have currently been working as a Social Carer Worker employed by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council working within a supported living setting. I have 2.5 years experience. I have completed my All Wales Induction Framework and have completed a multitude of training such as first aid training and moving and handling training which is done yearly. Within my role I work with a variety of hoisting equipment and mobility aids such as wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, rollators and Sara Stedy. Previously I was a live in carer for my grandmother whom used a commode and a rollator for several years before her death. I did household duties all within the home and made her meals.
What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): As a personal assistant working with a disabled person there are many important qualities someone must have. These include being reliable, caring, supportive, kind, compassionate, empathetic, attentive and friendly. All personal qualities that I pride myself on and deliver within my current social care role. especially working with vulnerable individuals with disabilities and learning difficulties.
How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have put professional practice in health and social care into practice by following the guidance in the codes of professional practice for social care. I ensure the well-being of the individuals in my care is held to an exceptional standard and is of the importance. A positive personal centred approach to the support I give is paramount and the delivery of care that promotes the co production and voice, choice and control of individuals and should be the basis of all support given. I have developed a working relationships with individuals I support that is built of trust, understanding and confidence. Working in partnership with other professionals when supporting individuals to health appointments and hospital visits to ensure the delivery of care is specific to their needs by relaying information regarding the individuals ailment and ensuring all relevant information is relayed to the professionals to ensure their health. I ensure that I undertake all relevant learning and training that is required of me to improve my skills and knowledge and is continued throughout my social care role and person assistant roles. I can contribute to the independence of a disabled person through the relationship centred working approach by building trust and respect between an individual over time during their care to build meaningful relationships with the people you are caring for in order to promote their well being through respectful, dutiful and inclusive dialog and conversation. Build trust between you and the individual that you are promoting their best interests and building confidence.
What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): Personal assistant roles appeal to me as personal support has been something that has been in my life for over a decade, from supporting my grandmother to my current social care role. I enjoy working one-to-one supporting an individual with their personal care needs, preparing meals, support out in public and in their car, activities and all round personal support.
What are your hobbies/interests?: My hobbies include travelling, photography and indoor plants and gardening. I enjoy spending time outdoors on walks with my dogs. I enjoy collecting houseplants and rare plants which I keep all around my home.
