Part-Time Personal Assistant

 

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

 

I am a disabled lady in my late thirties living in the Aberdare area. I use a wheelchair to move around my home and when out and about. I live with my mam and dad and we have one cat and one dogs. I look a lot younger than my years but don’t like being spoken to like a child. I enjoy watching television and DVD’s. I listen to lots of audio story tapes and I enjoy listening to music too. I enjoy spending time with my PA’s and like to do crafts. I love shopping and being outdoors in general when the weather is fine. I enjoy cooking. I’m fed via a gastronomy tube.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

I have PA’s to provide me with personal care support in the mornings, evenings and weekend. PA’s help keep my bathroom and bedroom clean and tidy. On the Saturday I would like support to go out and about in the community.

 

HOURS OF WORK

 

There are 2 positions available, please indicate on your application which one you are applying for.

 

  1. 9 hours p/w – weekday mornings Mon - Fri 7am – 8am

Saturdays 11am – 3pm, one Sat off per month

  1. 10 hours p/w – weekday evenings Mon, Wed, Fri 5.15pm – 7.15pm

Saturdays 11am – 3pm, one Sat off per month

 

RATES OF PAY

 

£13.25 per hour

 

TASKS WILL INCLUDE

 

  • Personal care ie washing & dressing
  • Support from chair to bed and back to my chair
  • Cleaning and tidying my bedroom and bathroom
  • Other reasonable tasks required during these hours
  • Taking me outside the home
  • Using my hoist and other manual handling equipment
  • Pushing my wheelchair

 

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

 

  • A person who is dependable and arrives on time
  • Someone with experience in assisting with personal care
  • A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in some else’s home
  • A person who finds the regular times suitable for their lifestyle
  • A person with a positive commitment to this kind of work
  • A person with a friendly, easy going manner
  • Someone who is adaptable and flexible would be an advantage
  • Someone who could provide extra hours as occasions arise would be an advantage
  • A person who is physically fit enough to push my wheelchair
  • Experience is important
  • You will be comfortable driving a large mobility car

 

ABOUT THE JOB

 

Though a part time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance of 6 months.

 

The wage is paid fortnightly on return of a payslip provided by Dewis Centre for Independent Living. You are paid by cheque by the employer. You will receive appropriate annual leave. A DBS is compulsory, at no cost to you.
