Cardiff Personal Assistant and Micro Enterprise Training Form | DEWIS CENTRE FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING (dewiscil.org.uk) The Cardiff Social Care Training & Development Team aim to provide a range of training to equip care givers with the essential knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality care to the individuals they support living with Dementia. Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. Each type of dementia stops a person’s brain cells (neurones) working properly in specific areas, affecting their ability to remember, think and speak. This comprehensive training programme covers a range of topics outlined below: Face to Face · How to provide better Dementia Care. An interactive and experiential look into what Dementia is and how we can better support those living with Dementia. The session is full of discussions, activities where we explore how we create better quality interactions with people by improving how we communicate with them, their environment, and their specific individual needs. · Dementia Care Workshop: Person Centred Care. In line with the Good Work Dementia Framework, this session is running at Informed Level – 2 Informed people understand what dementia is and how it affects a person with dementia and those around them. They also understand how to communicate effectively. · Dementia Care Workshop: Tools and Activities. An interactive and experiential look into the finer points of Dementia Care. This session builds from the first session (Dementia Care Workshop: Person Centred Care) and increases our awareness and ability to create stimulating and meaningful interactions through Dementia specific therapies which have been proven to increase quality of life and slow the progression of Dementia. Through various discussions and activities, we also explore how modern technology can support people living with Dementia. On-line Workshops · Cognitive Stimulation – How we can better help those living with dementia (2 Hrs) This workshop provides an overview of the concepts of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. It provides Activity ideas with tips and Techniques that will help you to run engaging 1-2-1 activities or activity sessions including using reminiscence. · Communication Strategies – How we can better help someone living with dementia (2 hrs). This course provides an overview of communication barriers that dementia may cause (go through some potential symptoms and share experiences). Communication tips and ideas to make communication easier. Simple Reminiscence and thinking about how we word things. Understanding behaviours and how to respond like Dealing with distress – “Feel with not Deal with.” And communication methods to try (Validation and Reality Orientation). · Creating a Dementia Friendly Space(1.5 hrs)- This course provides tips for adapting the home to create an accessible and safe home for someone with dementia. It helps to make simple considerations for adaptations to make a home more comfortable and useable. · Reminiscence Therapy- How we can better help those living with dementia (2 Hrs)-This course provides an overview of reminiscence therapy and its benefits (how it helps physically, personally and emotionally) It is a Interactive session with numerous activities which encourages us to Reminisce as often as possible, every day. Goes over the differences of “Reminiscing Vs Remembering, you will be able to use of questioning and improving our skills to “Swim in the Memories” to have long reminiscent conversations. · Dementia Friend Information Session (1.5 hour)- This training will enable you to become an Alzheimer Society dementia friend (route to becoming a dementia ambassador). It will increase awareness on what dementia is and how it can affect people. It will share activities Produced by Alzheimer Society. · Digital Tools To Support People Living with Dementia (1.5hrs)- This course provides an overview of Dementia. Looking into different types of technology available that can support people and links technology in with how it can support with better care.
