I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have extensive experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and additional needs in both community and one‑to‑one settings. My background includes working in day centres, schools, and private care, where I helped individuals build confidence, develop daily living skills, and access activities safely. I’ve supported adults with communication needs, mobility challenges, and varying levels of independence, always focusing on encouragement, patience, and promoting choice. I’m confident with personal care, medication support, behaviour management, and helping people take part in social and leisure activities. I’m friendly, reliable, and calm, and I enjoy supporting people to get out into the community, try new things, and live as independently as possible which makes me well‑suited to supporting a young man with Down’s syndrome.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I think the most important qualities are patience, reliability, and genuine respect for the person you are supporting. A good personal assistant should listen well, encourage independence, and adapt to the individual’s needs rather than taking over. It’s essential to be calm, understanding, and consistent, especially when supporting someone with learning disabilities or communication differences. Being friendly, trustworthy, and able to build a positive relationship also makes a big difference, as does having good awareness of safety, boundaries, and dignity. Overall, the role is about supporting someone to live the life they choose, with confidence and respect.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I can contribute by providing the right balance of support and encouragement so the person can do as much as possible for themselves. I focus on promoting independence through patience, clear communication, and breaking tasks down in a way that builds confidence rather than creating reliance. I’m experienced in supporting people in the community, helping them access activities, develop daily living skills, and make their own choices safely. I’m calm, reliable, and respectful of personal boundaries, and I always work in a person‑centred way supporting someone to live the life they choose, at their own pace, while maintaining dignity, safety, and control.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I enjoy PA work because it allows me to make a real difference to someone’s daily life while supporting their independence and confidence. I like building positive one‑to‑one relationships and getting to know the person I’m supporting so I can help them in a way that suits their personality, routines, and goals. I find it rewarding to encourage someone to take part in activities they enjoy, develop new skills, and feel more included in their community. I’m naturally patient, reliable, and supportive, and PA work gives me the chance to use those qualities in a meaningful way that helps someone live the life they choose.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I enjoy keeping active by walking my dog, especially around the Brecon Beacons, and I like cycling and going to the gym. I’m also a keen cook and run a small food page where I share recipes. I love being outdoors, staying healthy, and spending time with family, which helps me bring a positive and energetic approach to my work.
