Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Job Centre

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): My background in physiotherapy and healthcare provides a strong foundation for the Personal Assistant role. I have over two years of experience in neuro‑rehabilitation, supporting individuals with complex neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, and cerebral palsy. This work has given me a deep understanding of person‑centred care, safe mobility support, and the importance of promoting independence in everyday life. During my time at Sukino Neuro Rehabilitation Centre and throughout my clinical placements, I assessed and treated patients with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, created tailored treatment plans, and collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams. A significant part of my role involved assisting individuals with reduced mobility, helping them regain confidence in daily activities, and understanding how neurological conditions impact Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). I am skilled in providing support that encourages independence rather than dependence. I am trained in manual handling, basic life support, safeguarding adults, and the NHS Wales Code of Conduct, all of which align directly with the responsibilities of this position. I am confident in safe wheelchair handling, risk awareness in community environments, and ensuring individuals feel secure and empowered during outings. My experience as a Healthcare Assistant has further strengthened my ability to support elderly and disabled individuals with mobility, personal care, and community participation while maintaining dignity, confidentiality, and respect. I am comfortable in social settings and able to provide reassurance without limiting a person’s autonomy. These roles have developed my interpersonal skills, patience, and emotional intelligence. I am compassionate, reliable, and adaptable, and I value the opportunity to help someone lead an active and fulfilling life. Alongside my professional experience, I am currently completing an MSc in Physiotherapy at Cardiff University, which continues to enhance my clinical knowledge and commitment to high standards of care. Overall, my clinical expertise, manual handling training, experience with neurological conditions, and strong person‑centred approach make me well prepared to contribute positively to this role. I am enthusiastic about supporting an active lifestyle and being part of a team that makes a meaningful difference.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): When supporting a disabled person as a Personal Assistant, it is essential to embody qualities that reflect NHS values and strong person‑centred care. The foundation of the role is a genuine commitment to tailoring support to the individual’s preferences, routines, and goals, always promoting independence rather than creating dependence. Respect and dignity must be upheld at all times, ensuring privacy, choice, and equality in every interaction. Compassion and empathy are key to understanding both the physical and emotional aspects of a person’s needs, helping to build trust and a positive working relationship. Reliability and professionalism are equally important, as individuals often rely on consistent, punctual support to access the community safely and confidently. Effective communication through active listening, clear dialogue, and awareness of non‑verbal cues ensures the person feels understood and involved in decisions about their care. Safety is another core responsibility, requiring knowledge of manual handling, risk awareness, safeguarding, and confidentiality to protect the individual in both home and community settings. Patience, emotional resilience, and a commitment to equality and inclusion further strengthen the quality of support provided. Together, these qualities enable a Personal Assistant to empower the individual to live an active, fulfilling life with confidence, autonomy, and dignity.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I believe I can make a positive contribution to the independence and wellbeing of a disabled person by providing support that is person‑centred, respectful, and empowering. My approach is grounded in enablement helping individuals maintain choice, control, and dignity rather than taking over tasks they can do themselves. Based on the role description, I understand that the focus is on supporting community access, attending social and leisure activities, and ensuring the individual can live an active and fulfilling life safely and confidently. My background in physiotherapy and neuro‑rehabilitation has given me extensive experience working with people who have mobility challenges and neurological conditions. I understand how to assist safely with mobility and manual handling while encouraging the person to participate as fully as possible. This approach not only supports physical ability but also builds confidence and self‑esteem. My training in manual handling, safeguarding, and basic life support ensures that I can provide safe, responsible support during outings and community activities. I also bring reliability, patience, and strong social confidence to the role. Since the position involves attending theatres, community venues, and other leisure settings, I would ensure the individual feels comfortable, included, and supported throughout. I am adaptable and can anticipate potential barriers in public environments, helping reduce stress and create a smooth, enjoyable experience. Above all, I value independence and believe that high‑quality support enables someone to live life on their own terms. Through practical assistance, emotional reassurance, and consistent reliability, I aim to help the individual remain active, confident, and fully engaged in their community while maintaining their dignity and autonomy.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): Personal Assistant work appeals to me because it is deeply personal, meaningful, and centred on making a genuine difference in someone’s daily life. I am strongly committed to person centred care, and this role allows me to support one individual closely, understand their preferences, and help them live independently and with confidence. What I find most rewarding is that the role goes beyond providing practical assistance, it is about enabling someone to access the community, enjoy social and leisure activities, and maintain control over their own life. With my healthcare and physiotherapy background, I am motivated by helping people maximise their abilities rather than focusing on limitations. PA work offers the opportunity to build trust, form a positive working relationship, and contribute to someone’s quality of life in a respectful, empowering way. The values at the heart of the role, dignity, independence, and enablement, align strongly with my own approach to care. I am drawn to this work because it is both responsible and rewarding, allowing me to support someone to live life on their own terms while ensuring they feel valued, respected, and fully included in their community.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): My hobbies and interests naturally complement my background in physiotherapy and healthcare. I have a strong interest in fitness, rehabilitation, and promoting an active lifestyle, and I enjoy learning about physical wellbeing, exercise programmes, and ways to improve mobility and overall health. These interests support both my academic development and my practical skills as a physiotherapy student. I also enjoy volunteering and taking part in community‑based activities. Recently, I supported athletes at the Cardiff Half Marathon by providing physiotherapy assistance and encouragement throughout the event. This experience strengthened my passion for community engagement and for helping people achieve their personal goals. Alongside this, I enjoy attending local events and spending time in community settings, which have helped me build confidence in social environments and develop strong interpersonal skills. Overall, my interests reflect my commitment to health, well-being, teamwork, and supporting others to maintain an active and independent lifestyle.
