Personal Assistant Application Form Submission

Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Dewis CIL Website

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): My background in disability support, safeguarding, and person‑centred care has given me a strong foundation for providing practical help while also nurturing a sense of safety, dignity, and independence. I have extensive experience working with children and adults with additional needs, including supporting communication, emotional regulation, and daily routines. I take a calm, respectful approach, always prioritising the individual’s comfort, preferences, and autonomy. I am attentive to subtle cues, able to anticipate needs, and confident in adapting my support style to match the person’s sensory, emotional, or physical requirements. I believe in creating environments where people feel understood, valued, and genuinely safe. I work with clarity, consistency, and kindness, and I am committed to supporting in a way that strengthens confidence and allows my clients to have autonomy. I have worked as a complex needs support worker, A teenager with additional needs PA and mentor, A manager of a childrens disability service and a community based Care worker for the elderly.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): Kindness and patience above all else. Being empathic and sensitive to their feelings and doing everything with a determination to protect dignity and autonomy. Helping the client feel empowered and respected but above all, being open, fun, honest and confidential at all times.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have worked closely with disabled children and young adults for many years and feel that my reputation and the way they have regarded me is testament to my dedication to working with people who are marginalised and have extra support needs. The SEND community I have worked with for the last 7 years are mt extended family. My tribe. My soul connects with differently abled people in a way that feels natural to me. I have excellent ability to feel moods, shifts, needs and emotions and apply kindness and sensitivity to those I care for. I am able to meet every individual on their level and believe empowerment is in helping them to find their passion for what they enjoy. I am a people person. Sensitive, empathic, always polite and extremely patient. I have excellent etiquette and passionate about standing up against bullying of any kind. I have been a complex carer and am used to performing all duties required including personal care, which I make fun, and like a spa experience! I used to own a salon before working in care and SEN support, so I have that type of Hairdresser personality. Very chatty and communication is my strength. I have worked with clients that have had Dementia in all stages and forms and really enjoyed supporting their mental wellbeing and needs, removing fear and working out ways to bring reassurance into their lives. In my recent work as a SEND Charity Service Manager, I have to design activities for up to 80 children and young people aged between 0-25 years, all with a massive range of different abilities and needs. Each week, I invent, create and bring new activities to the service that are inclusive and fun for this diverse range of needs. My personal ethos is that nobody gets left behind and nobody is told off. I am unable to do either and will not be the right fit for any role that requires me to handle others in a way that reduces their dignity. I believe that there are always ways to support a person regardless of their situation or behaviour, without needing to be bossy or unkind.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I have worked for my whole life since the age of 15 in public roles and am a people person. I am incredibly sociable and since working with SEND children and young adults and also supporting their families with signposting, advice and support on many topics, I have a great skill set that encompasses many things that can help anyone wirh additional needs. I was excluded as a child and I understand how it feels to be on the outside. It is this fact that is at the core of everything I do for others. I need to be helping others feel that they matter and this is my soul fuel. It motivates me and is meaningful. I connect on a deep level although I am also boundary respectful. I want to be a person who is remembered for being an advocate, an inspiration, a bit quirky and having a good heart. Being a PA for me is being someones light in a dark tunnel.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): Love Arts, crafting, decorating SEN events and a bit of volunteering for the childrens charity I worked at. I love fashion, hairdressing, charity shop bargain hunting and music. I like anything from choral and classical to heavy metal and rock. I adore dogs, especially whippets and sight hounds.
