Where did you hear about our PA vacancies? (required): Dewis CIL Website
If you are applying for a position as a Micro Enterprise Carer, please enter your business name::

I confirm that I have the right to work in the UK and am able to prove my eligibility status when required to do so. (required): Yes

Please read the Job Description carefully before providing information in this Section of the Application Form. Give details of your previous employment or experience which you think would help you to do this job. (required): I have previous experience working as a Personal Assistant for a young Autistic woman in Northampton between 2021 and 2023. I helped her manage daily tasks, increase her confidence using public transport, leaving the house independently, managing cooking and cleaning tasks, and going on outings to to the Sea Life Centre. I have autism, ADHD and Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder, so I have had to manage my own disabilites alongside living alone, working part time and completing my Psychology BSc, so I have a personal understanding and interest in supporting other people to do the same. I am currently finishing my Psychology BSc, and in the future I hope to study to become an Occupational Therapist. I am currently working as a Pharmacy Dispenser, having qualified with an NVQ Level 2 in 2021, so I am confident and have knowledge around ordering, handling and dispensing medications.

What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): It is important that I work with you and to listen and then communicate effectively to ensure that I am doing what you need from me, instead of assuming what it is you need me to do. I am not going to jump in and do things for you unless we have agreed previously what you need and how that support needs to be applied. I will be patient and will give you the time and space to get things done. I have a high respect for peoples autonomy, and do not want to interfere in tasks unless I can make the task truly easier. I am willing to be silly and have fun with things! Having a disability is hard enough without everyone walking on eggshells around you. And you deserve to be supported in whatever it is you want to do, even if it is not traditionally an essential task. Being a reliable and organised person is important to me, as having a disability comes with a lot of uncertainty and unknowns. I will enjoy helping to create a plan for the month ahead of time, and I will be sure to communicate around any delays, changes in plans or timing issues.

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I will be able to help with reminding to get tasks done, or creating a daily routine that helps support daily tasks. I can help with self-care tasks such as supporting in getting dressed, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other everyday tasks. I can help advise on ways certain tasks could be made easier with the help of supportive devices or alternative routines (ex. shower chairs to help with shower fatigue, using prechopped vegetables to reduce effort while cooking). I have an understanding that independence may not always be possible or the goal for some people - my goal will always be listening to you and working together to truly understand what support you need.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I understand how hard everyday tasks can be and how frustrating it can get wanting to be able to get things done but not having the right understanding or support. My own personal experience in having to create supportive systems and advocating for help gives me the understanding and knowledge that I want to be able to share with others to help them live a good life.

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I enjoy listening to music, and when I get the opportunity I love going to see west end musicals in London. I like going to the movies, although I am not very good at keeping up with the latest shows! I am developing my own Film and TV DVD collection so I can watch all my favorite shows without needing to stream them! I am a homebody, so most of my hobbies are ones I can do at home, such as playing video games, watching TV and Films, drawing, listening to podcasts, arts and crafts, crochet, listening to vinyl and I am currently learning to play the accordion!
