What qualities do you think are important when working as a personal assistant with a disabled person? (required): I think first and foremost people with disabilities be treated as an individual and to be treated fairly enabling them to access hobbies their local community, and activities that are meaningful to them . I believe providing a holistic care approach is key to tailoring their care needs using a person centred approach . Effective communication is key as well as a good sense of humour, a listening ear, as essentially you become part of the extended family .

How do you think you can contribute towards the needs and the independence of a disabled person? (required): I have over 32 years experience of working for the NHS as a very well established, experienced, senior HCSW . It is a roll I thoroughly enjoyed . The last 17 years of my roll were spent community nursing . I am fully trained in tracheostomy care, seizures, buccal madazalam administration, stoma care , manual handling , suction training ( both oral, nasal and tracheostomy ), Long term ventilation Bipap and Cpap, gastrostomy ,PEG feeding , catheter care, peristeen administration . Furthermore for the past four years I have been employed by a lovely family via DEWIS as part of a team to provide care and support to a 21 year old adult . I absolutely love this roll and am looking to help and support another individual/family providing holistic care and support tailored to meet their needs.

What is it about PA work which appeals to you? (required): I find PA work so rewarding . Health and social care is where my heart is . It’s not a job as I enjoy every aspect of what’s involved . Every individual is their own unique person and my aim is to give them the best care I possibly can .

What are your hobbies/interests? (required): I am a social butterfly, I enjoy socialising with family and friends, I love to learn new skills . I enjoy cooking , gardening , singing ( although I’m tone deaf ) dancing . I go to boxing classes that’s great for core strength . I enjoy walking my little dog Rocco . I call it my wellbeing walk .

Do you speak any other languages? if so what do you speak?  (required): No I learnt a bit of Spanish but I was not so good at it.
