Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a man in my early 40’s living at home with my parents in Ton Pentre. I have cerebral palsy and use a powered wheelchair to get around. Although my physical disability is quite severe, my speech and brain work perfectly well and I have a wicked sense of humour. My parents are also my carers.

I am a very friendly and open-minded person and really enjoy being in the company of others. I like to stick to my Daily routine as it is important that I'm ready in the mornings as I work as a pupil’s advocate 4 days a week in a school for students with additional needs. As I have numerous qualifications in I.T. one of my roles in work is to help the students learn IT skills such as learning to use their communication aids. I also teach pupils how to operate their powered wheel chairs which I really enjoy.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

I am looking to employ a personal Assistant to help me get ready for to and from work and to help me with showering dressing and personal care. To drive me to social events and out in the community in my own vehicle.

HOURS OF WORK

A minimum of 32 hours per week to be worked Monday to Thursday starting at 6am until 7.30am which will cover getting me out of bed, showering and dressing me ready to go to work, I have a hoist in my home and as my parents are also my carers they will train you how to use it.

I will need you to return at 4.30pm to hoist me into my bed help me change into my night clothes and put me back in my wheel chair for the evening.

Thursday evening 4.30pm until around 10pm

Friday As Friday is my weekly day off I like to have my 8am morning routine and then free time for me to pursue hobbies or socialize.

RATES OF PAY 

£12.00 per hour

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

·          Showering and personal care, Dressing and undressing every day.

·          Social outings

·          Using my hoist/training will be given     

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

·          Someone comfortable with personal care support when needed

·          A very competent driver

·          A sociable person/good sense of humor

·          Someone respectful in my home situation

·          Someone who is reasonably flexible with the way the hours are worked

·          Honest and trustworthy

·          A good time keeper.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid on a fortnightly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
