Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am lady in my 30’s living in the Porth area with my husband, 3 children and my dog. I have Friedreich’s Ataxia. It is a rare, inherited, degenerative disease. It damages the spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and the cerebellum portion of the brain. When I am tired my speech and hearing is not as clear. I was born with the condition, but was not diagnosed until I was 10 and my condition has worsened over time. I have been a wheelchair user since I was 17. I enjoy going shopping to the cinema and out for food. 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

I am looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support me to access the community. I need assistance in my parenting role to attend appointments and events in the children’s school. Initially we will go out local to Porth, over time we may go further. 

HOURS OF WORK

8 hours per week 

RATES OF PAY

£14.80 per hour

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

·        Ensuring all my needs are met

·        Keeping me safe at all times

·        Taking me to places I enjoy such as shopping, to the cinema and out for food.

·        Help me to explore new interest

·        Assist me to attend appointments and events at my children’s school

·        Assist me with toileting

·        Assist me with household chores

·        Any other reasonable tasks

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Friendly, reliable and punctual
  • Considerate, caring and trustworthy
  • Female PA only due to personal care
  • Willing to undertake manual handling training for use of hoists
  • Car driver, willing to drive an adaptable vehicle, but not essential
  • Someone okay with dogs

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted.  A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.  The wage will be paid monthly and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
